The primary purpose of the Harry Perkins Institute North building is to create an environment that promotes the generation of new knowledge to improve the health of the community. To deliver this, the Perkins Institute, the UWA and State Government have identified integration of research activities as the key underlying principle in the development of these Facilities.

It is the Perkins Institute’s strong contention that the best approach to developing world-class medical research is through fostering collaboration, complementary expertise and shared facilities, including specialised equipment.
The building was designed specifically to minimise segregation of individual research groups and the ensuing costly duplication through separation of research activities.
